Kalyan Singh raises voice for millions of deprived, develops farmers, women, youth: Modi

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister passed away on Saturday evening. He had been ill for the last two months and was admitted to SGPGI in Lucknow for treatment. Twice in the last two days, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to the hospital to inquire about his condition.

Kalyan Singh, who was also the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan besides the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is mourning the demise of his fans, BJP leaders and activists. The Lucknow-based PGI said in a statement that Kalyan Singh was admitted to the ICU of Sanjay Gandhi PGI's Critical Care Medicine on July 4 in critical condition.

Following a long illness, most of his body parts gradually stopped working and he also had a kidney infection. He was paid tributes by leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Paying homage to 89-year-old Kalyan Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Kalyan Singh has made a great contribution for the development of farmers, women and youth. They became the voice of millions of deprived people.

Kalyan Singh was born on 5 January 1932 in Atrauli, Uttar Pradesh. He was active in RSS since childhood. He studied up to LLB and later got involved in politics.

He is considered as one of the founders of BJP. Kalyan Singh played a major role in the Ram temple construction movement. He has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice. He was the CM at the time of Babri's demise, who later resigned, and later served as chief minister again from 1997 to 1999.
