All the development that has been done in Afghanistan in the last 40 years is now over. "There is nothing left now," Afghan Sikh MP Narendra Singh Khalsa said at the Hindon airbase on Sunday.

Afghan Sikh MP Narendra Khalsa and Senator Anarkali Honaryar as well as their family members arrived at Hindon Airbase on an Indian Air Force flight C-17 from Kabul on Sunday. The emotional Afghan MP thanked the Government of India, Prime Minister Modi and the Indian Air Force for rescuing him and his family. "India is our second home," he said. We lived in Afghanistan and even though we were Afghans, people there called us Hindustani.

With tears in his eyes over the current situation in Afghanistan, he said he was saddened to leave his country. Everything we have achieved and developed since the 9/11 attacks on the United States and the removal of the Taliban regime from Afghanistan is now over. We have never seen such a situation before. Describing his experience of the last seven days after the Taliban captured Kabul, he said the situation of Hindus and Sikhs trapped in war-torn Afghanistan was dire and the Indian government should make every effort to save them.
