Supreme Court rejects lifeguard's appeal against life imprisonment

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has upheld an order convicting a man in a murder case and quashing the convict's plea, citing Sherlock Holmes' famous line "You watch but don't pay attention".

In court, Amicus Curiae argued that the four witnesses had seen the face of the murderer at night, which is not possible to identify in the dark.

These arguments were upheld by Supreme Court Judge R.S. F. Nariman and Judge K.M. Joseph, Judge B.R. Gawai was rejected. "We are not in a position to intervene in the case," the apex court bench said in its order.

Responding to arguments that it was not possible to identify the killer's face in the dark, Judge R. F. Nariman said that this is exactly what happened to Dr. Sherlock Holmes. Watson said you can see but you can't pay attention. The court later dismissed the appeal in the murder case and upheld the life sentence.
