TOKYO: On the one hand, the government has declared an emergency lockdown in Tokyo due to the growing number of corona cases. On the other hand, amid heavy protests from the majority of citizens, the Olympic Games were finally reopened today after a simplified and inaugural opening ceremony.

The stadium being empty, the opening ceremony was also becoming a TV show for the citizens of Japan. The Indian team was ranked 21st in the March Past according to the Japanese alphabet. As soon as the opening ceremony began, the sky lit up the night with purple and white fireworks, the color of the Japan Olympic theme. There were less than 1000 guests at the opening ceremony and they too sat at a great distance from each other. So the stadium seemed empty and desolate. Corporate celebrities could not be seen as most of the sponsors were also moving.

Ever since Tokyo was chosen as the host, all eyes were on the theatrical performances that Japan had to endure the historic challenge of natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and the Corona in the last year.

Earlier, at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Japan was cited as evidence of the extent to which they had perished during World War II and made progress by sitting down.
