Kerala should also abide by the order to stop the yatra

No religious group should be allowed to play games with public health in Corona epidemic: Supreme Court

New Delhi: Amid rising cases of corona virus, lockdown was allowed in Kerala on the occasion of Goat Eid. The case reached the Supreme Court. Following this, the Supreme Court has slammed the government and said that no festival should be celebrated at the risk of people's lives.

Earlier, the Kerala government had given a three-day leave in lockdown in view of the Bakri Eid festival. This exemption was demanded by the traders due to Eid which has been accepted. The apex court had directed the Kerala government to abide by the order passed on the yatra in Uttar Pradesh.

The court also said that no religious group should be allowed to play with the health of the people. The Kerala government had relaxed some of the lockdown restrictions on July 18, 19 and 20 in view of the Goat Eid festival. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had also allowed Kawad Yatra, which the apex court had asked the state and central governments to ban.

The apex court had directed the Kerala government to comply with the order on the occasion of Eid. Kerala had the highest number of cases after Maharashtra among the Koro epidemics when many people were killed. In this case, Delhi resident PKD Nambiar had demanded in the Supreme Court that the Kerala government, like Uttar Pradesh, be barred from allowing religious festivals.
