Remove pornographic content immediately: NCW commands Twitter

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has directed the managing director of Twitter India to remove all kinds of obscene content from the platform within a week. Regarding the accountability of major social media companies, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Electronics Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Twitter had imposed the US Copyright Act to block their accounts, but the law could also be imposed in India if it was in line with Indian law.

Rekha Sharma, chairperson of the NCW, also asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to investigate the case and take appropriate action. The NCW has taken legal action against pornographic content in some profiles on Twitter.

The commission had earlier received a similar complaint and asked Twitter India to immediately bring the matter to its notice and remove it. But the platform did not take any action on it.
