Rakesh Asthana, appointed Delhi Police Commissioner, will remain in the post for one year

Rakesh Asthana, a senior IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, has been made Delhi Police Commissioner. As per the order of the Union Home Ministry, Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Asthana has been asked to assume his post with immediate effect.

Asthana, who is retiring on July 31, was given the responsibility a few days ago. Asthana will remain as Delhi Police Commissioner for the next one year. Asthana, a 1984 batch IPS officer, has been the CBI's special director.

Meanwhile, his dispute with the then CBI director Alok Verma came up for discussion. The case of allegations and counter-charges between top CBI officials in the case had reached the Supreme Court.

Rakesh Asthana studied at Netarhat School in Jharkhand. Rakesh Asthana, a 1984 batch IPS officer, studied at St. Xavier's College, Ranchi after passing the matriculation examination.

After being selected as IPS, he got Gujarat cadre. While in the CBI, Rakesh Asthana was in a lot of discussions after the controversy with the then director Alok Verma. However, he was transferred from the CBI after the controversy.
