No deaths due to lack of oxygen: Case against Union Health Minister Mandvia

During the second wave of corona, claims by the central and state governments that there were no deaths due to lack of oxygen in the country have reached the court. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandvia and Minister of State for Health Dr. Manmohan Singh appeared in the court of CJM in Muzaffarpur, Bihar on Thursday. A case has been registered against Bharti Praveen. The court will hear the matter on July 28.

Tamanna Hashmi, a resident of Bhikhanpura in Ahiyapur in Muzaffarpur district, has filed the petition through advocate Suraj Kumar. In which the statement of Union Minister of State for Health Bharti Praveen has been objected to. The petition claimed that many people lost their lives in Hashmi's village due to lack of oxygen. The plaintiff has termed the statement of Minister Bharti Praveen in Parliament as irresponsible.

In response to this question, the Union Ministry of Health also said that the demand for oxygen in the country increased significantly in the second wave as compared to the first corona wave. Oxygen demand was 3,095 tonnes in the first wave, while it reached 9,000 tonnes in the second wave.

Mandviya clarified this

There has been no death due to lack of oxygen demand in the country, when the Opposition and the media raised eyebrows, Union Minister Mandvia tweeted that the information was based on reports from the states and union territories.
