Kamal Nath likely to be crowned acting president of the Congress

New Delhi, Dt

Ahead of next year's assembly elections in five states, the Congress party is showing signs of major change. According to Congress sources, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath may be crowned acting chairman. Not only that, in the next few months, the Congress party will start the process of electing a new president. In a new reshuffle in the Congress, election strategist Prashant Kishor could join the Congress and he is likely to be given a bigger responsibility.

According to Congress sources, a meeting of the Congress executive will be convened in the near future. Big changes can happen after that. The All India Congress Committee session for the election of the Congress President may then be held in the month of August. According to sources, Kamal Nath is likely to get a big responsibility in the organization. In fact Kamal Nath is popular in all sections of the party. With that in mind he is likely to be made acting chairman. However, this has not yet been formally confirmed and the idea is still in its infancy. Sonia Gandhi is currently the acting president of the party. A faction in the party has long wanted to reinstate Rahul Gandhi as Congress president.

Kamal Nath arrived in Delhi on Thursday and met Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. According to sources, Kamal Nath is not keen on the post of treasurer. However, they can allow for greater responsibility in the party organization. Election strategist Prashant Kishor, on the other hand, met Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday. Prashant Kishore is believed to be making great preparations for the 206th Lok Sabha elections. There is also speculation that Prashant Kishor may join the Congress in a new reshuffle in the Congress executive and be given a bigger responsibility.

Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress is at loggerheads with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu. Following the discussion in the Punjab Congress to make Navjot Singh Sidhu the President, there are two rifts in the Congress in the state. The Sidhu faction has been alerted by Amarinder Singh's displeasure ahead of Sidhu's coronation. Sidhu has held an important meeting with five ministers and about 10 MLAs in Chandigarh. Punjab Cabinet Minister and Amarinder's opponent Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is present at the meeting. On the other hand, Amarinder Singh has called a meeting at his farm house amid speculation that he has resigned as chief minister, annoyed by the news of Sidhu's appointment as president.
