Just 24 hours before the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, 1979 cases of corona were reported.

The Tokyo Olympics kick off on July 23 (Friday). Just a day earlier, a record 1979 cases of corona were reported in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, on Thursday. These cases are the highest in the last six months. Earlier, on January 15, 2,044 cases of corona were reported in Tokyo. Corona cases are on the rise in Tokyo. On Wednesday, 1832 new cases of corona virus were reported.

The total number of infected people in Japan has exceeded eight and a half million. The epidemic has killed more than 15,000 people. Significantly, on July 12, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a Corona Emergency in Tokyo. The emergency will remain in effect in the city until August 22.

Cases of the virus continue to rise despite Corona's emergency. On Thursday, Czech Republic volleyball player Marketa Nouschu and Dutch taekwondo player Reshmi Agink had to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics due to corona infections. With these two, the number of infected athletes in the Olympic Village has reached 10.
