Gulshan Kumar murder: 'Guilty not entitled to generosity', HC upholds Abdul Rauf's life sentence

The Bombay High Court has ruled on a petition filed in the Gulshan Kumar murder case. It upheld the sentence of Abdul Rauf alias Dawood Merchant, a convict of the murder. Abdul Rauf is an ally of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The Sessions Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. The High Court also made it clear that Abdul Rauf was not entitled to any kind of leniency as he had earlier fled Bangladesh on the pretext of parole.

Gulshan Kumar, owner of T-Series Company, was assassinated on August 12, 1997 in Mumbai's Juhu area. Gulshan Kumar was shot 16 times outside the temple. Some people were arrested in the case and some are still on trial. Justice Jadhav and Justice Borkar delivered judgment on the application.

Abdul Rauf was convicted in the murder case of Gulshan Kumar. He was sentenced to life in prison in April 2002. He was later released on parole in 2009 and fled to Bangladesh. He was later brought to India from Bangladesh.

A total of four petitions related to the Gulshan Kumar case were received in the Bombay High Court. There were 3 petitions against the conviction of Abdul Rauf, Rakesh Chanchala Pinnam and Rakesh Khaokar. Another petition was filed by the Maharashtra government against the acquittal of Bollywood producer Ramesh Taurani. He was charged with incitement to murder so he was released. The Bombay High Court has said it will hear the plea of ​​the remaining convicts in part.
