For the first time, six women athletes from Gujarat have qualified for the Olympics-Paralympics

Ahmedabad: For the first time in the history of Gujarat, six women athletes have set a new record by qualifying for the Olympics and Paralympics to be held in Tokyo.

Gujarat's Ilavanil Valarivan will represent India in shooting, Ankita Raina in tennis and Mana Patel in swimming at the Tokyo Olympics. After that, Parul Parmar will compete in badminton and Bhavina Patel as well as Sonal Patel in table tennis from Team India in the Olympics for the disabled.

The last time Govindrao Sawant of Gujarat participated in the 1960 Olympics in Rome was from the Indian hockey team. This is the first time since then that such a large number of Gujarat players have qualified to participate in the biggest sports event in the world.

Notably, this is the first time that Gujarat's women players are going to participate in a major tournament like Mahakumbh of sports. The Tokyo Olympics, which have been postponed for a year due to Corona, are set to begin on July 23. The Paralympic Games for the Paralyzed will be held in Tokyo from August 24.
