Bunde had lodged a complaint at the Mahatma Phule police station last week after Gaikwad failed to pay the bill for three months. MSEDCL spokesperson Vijay Singh said that after the police registered an FIR against Gaikwad last week, he had paid the full amount of the bill as well as the fine on Monday.

However, according to the law, theft of electricity can result in imprisonment for a maximum of three years or a fine or both.
