Choksi returned to Antigua on bail in Dominica



New Delhi: Diamond trader Mehul Choksi has returned to Antigua and Barbuda on bail after spending 51 days in neighboring Dominica. He is being prosecuted for illegal entry into Dominica. He has been living outside India since 2018.

Regarding his entry into Dominica, his lawyers said he was abducted and picked up. Choksi, 62, was granted bail by the Dominica High Court. He sought bail on medical grounds to seek the help of a neurologist.

Choksi arrived in Antigua on a chartered plane after posting ૧૦ 10,000 in bail. Choksi had attached his medical report while seeking bail. This includes a CT scan. It showed that he had a slight hematoma.

Doctors said she urgently needed treatment from a neurologist and a neurosurgical consultant. These services are not currently available on the island. The CT scan report was dated June 29, signed by doctors at the hospital there.

Choksi is accused in a Rs 13,500 crore bank scam in India. He suddenly disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda on May 23, where he had lived as a citizen since 2013. He was detained for illegally entering neighboring Dominica. It was rumored at the time that he had fled with his girlfriend. His lawyers say he was abducted on May 6 in Jolly Harbor, Antigua. It was brought to Dominica by people like Antiguan and Indians.
