Aadhar cards worth Rs 27 lakh suspended in Assam due to NRC

Guwahati: Giving shocking information in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Ranjit Kumar Das, Minister of State for General Administration, admitted that 27,43,369 names of Aadhaar were hanging. These biometrics were collected during the process of claims and objections i.e. claims and objections. The process began after a draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published in July 2018. It included 19,06,657 people who were excluded from the final NRC of August 2019.

The remarks came in response to a question from All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) legislator Ashraf ul Hussain. Das said it was now up to the Center to decide whether to base the enrollment or number. The names of these 27 lakh people were suspended after the final NRC was published and the Center has been appealed to unfreeze it. It states that the NRC is not proof of citizenship. The process has not progressed from there.

The opposite has happened to the lives of these people. They are not getting the social rights associated with Aadhaar. It is noteworthy that Aadhaar is now connected to everything from banking to cooking gas and housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In addition, food subsidies under the public distribution system are also credited directly to the Aadhaar Link account. Assam's Nagaon district has the highest number of people off the list. It is followed by Barpeta, Darang, Hojal and Catcher in the top five.

This is another example of how the system is treating these victims as outsiders. The priorities of the government formed by this same party are different as reflected in recent steps. Amidst Kovid's predicament and the monsoon, he has introduced a new cow protection bill, which points to his priorities.
