Mumbai: In Maharashtra, 129 people were killed in 48 hours of torrential rains. An estimated 65 people were killed in various landslides in Raigad, Satara and Ratnagiri.

A team of police, municipal employees, fire brigade and NDRF recovered the bodies from the rubble after a great effort. Even more bodies are suspected to have been buried in the rubble. Relief efforts were hampered by heavy rains and flooding. Some people were rescued here.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had announced Rs 5 lakh each to the family of the deceased. He also said that the injured would be treated free of cost. While the Prime Minister announced to give two lakh rupees to the family members of the deceased and 50 thousand rupees to the injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Maharashtra is deeply saddened by the landslide caused by the rains. CM Uddhav Thackeray and NDRF DG S.N. Have spoken to the Minister.

The NDRF team is carrying out relief and rescue work. Every help needed by the center is being provided. 'Rescue operations have been launched in Raigad and elsewhere. The cliff is likely to collapse. Arrangements will be made for the people living there to live elsewhere, said Uddhav Thackeray.

An estimated 35 houses were buried in the rubble when a cliff collapsed at Talai village in Mahad taluka of Raigad due to torrential rains. People living here could not get out of the house to save their lives. The tragic incident happened at 4 pm yesterday. But it was not possible to reach them due to heavy rains and floods. The rescue operation was finally carried out this morning.

Locals, police, four teams of NDRF recovered an estimated 36 bodies from the rubble in the house. The injured were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Apart from this, 12 houses were damaged in a similar accident at Posare Boudhwadi near Dhamnand in Khed taluka of Ratnagiri. The avalanche left 17 people dead. Several animals were also killed. The village was flooded due to rains in Khed. Bhirgaon, Ambeghar, Humbarbali, Dhokavalle and other places in Patan taluka in Satara were hit by cliffs.

Twelve people were killed in Ambeghar and Mirgaon. It is also alleged that help was delayed after all the incidents. The Kovid Center at Chiplun in Ratnagiri was flooded and the power supply was cut off. Here 21 people were admitted for treatment. Eight patients who were kept on ventilator and oxygen were reported to have died.

Mourning has spread in Maharashtra, where an estimated 129 people have been killed in 48 hours in landslides, waterlogging and other accidents. Four people were killed and six others were injured when a building collapsed in Mumbai's Govandi last night. More than 30 people were killed in landslides and wall collapses in Mumbai's Chembur, Vikhroli and Bhadup recently.
