AHMEDABAD: As many as 25,000 troops were deployed in South Africa to quell violence after riots erupted. The task of breaking the law and order situation was entrusted to the army personnel. This is the first time since 1994 that such a large number of troops have been deployed.

Riots have erupted in South Africa since former President Jacob Zuma was jailed. So far 72 people have been killed. The police-army fired the control over the dominion when the storms have driven a robbery to mall-shops. The army has also been deployed along with the police to bring down the situation.

For the first time since 1994, thousands of troops were deployed on the road. 25,000 troops have been deployed to prevent violence. Helicopters, army vehicles were used to transport soldiers to the scene of violence. It is hoped that the situation will deteriorate as troops are deployed in the areas where riots have broken out. Many Gujaratis have been targeted in the violent riots.

In addition, more than 60 families from Bharuch district have settled in South Africa for business purposes, while families are calling Africa and asking for information. Gujaratis are worried when Gujaratis have shops and godowns here. At the same time, the state government is also concerned about the safety of Gujaratis in the wake of violent riots in Africa.

State Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar's attention has been drawn to the way in which a violent situation has arisen in Africa and a representation has been made on behalf of the government to ensure the safety of Gujarati families. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has also spoken to the African Foreign Minister on the issue.
