18 killed as UP bus collides with truck at Barabanki

A major road accident has been reported at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. A truck hit the bus from behind and the collision was so violent that bodies were scattered on the road. Eighteen people have been confirmed dead and more than a dozen injured in the crash.

The accident took place at midnight on the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway near Ramsanehi Ghat in Barabanki. It was learned that the bus was going from Palwal in Haryana to Bihar. The bus was carrying laborers who were returning to Bihar.

The bus was carrying about 140 passengers and 18 of them died on the spot. According to the injured, they were all working in Punjab and Haryana and were returning home to Bihar.

Officer's statement

Giving details of the incident, SP Yamuna Prasad of Barabanki said that the bus was standing near Dhaba of Thana Ramsanehighat due to broken axle. At that time, a truck coming at full speed at night hit from behind. The crash killed 18 people and injured more than 2 dozen.

All the injured are undergoing treatment at Barabanki and Lucknow Trauma Centers. They were going from Haryana to Bihar. According to police, the slain laborers were from Sitamarhi, Darbhanga and other places in Bihar.

The death toll from the accident is still expected to rise. Rescue work was started by JCB after the accident and Chief Minister of the region Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the tragedy. He also directed the district administration to provide free treatment to the injured.
