The right to life under the Constitution also includes the right to food: Supreme

New delhi date. 29

Considering the basic global concept of food security, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the lack of special provision on food security in the country's constitution may include the right to life with dignity and the right to food and other basic necessities.

Judges Ashok Bhushan and M.S. R. Shah's bench said, "There is no special provision in the Constitution of India regarding the right to food. Article 21 of the Constitution defines the fundamental right to life as the right to life with human dignity and the right to food and other basic necessities. In this context, it is the duty of all states and central governments to provide food security to the poor.

The Supreme Court said that at present there is an awareness of the right to food for human beings all over the world. Our country is no exception. All the governments in the world are taking steps to ensure that no one suffers from starvation or death from starvation. The basic premise of global food security is to ensure that all people have access to basic food for their active and healthy lives.
