Local travelers who have taken both doses of the vaccine will be exempted from the RT-PCR test

New Delhi, 6 June 2021 Sunday

The central government is considering abolishing the system of mandatory RT-PCR tests for passengers who have taken both doses of the vaccine and enabling domestic air travel without difficulty. Union Minister of Civil Aviation (MoCA) Hardeep Singh Puri has given this information to news agency ANI.

"A joint team of several ministries and stakeholders, including the health department, is discussing the final decision to allow air travel without RT-PCR tests to both recipients of the vaccine," he said. He said the decision would not only be taken by the MoCA alone, but also by the nodal agencies, including health experts working with the government, to contribute to the decision-making in the interest of passengers.

Currently, local travelers are compulsorily asked to submit a negative RT-PCR report before traveling to certain states where cases of active corona are even more prevalent. "Health is a state issue. It is the right of a particular state to seek a negative RT-PCR report from passengers before entering the state," Puri said.
