In five years, women's enrollment in higher education has increased by 12 per cent

The Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education has increased by 11 per cent in the last five years, according to the All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) 2016-20. The report states that the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of girls in higher education has increased by 12 per cent in the last five years.

According to the report released by the Union Ministry of Education, the number of universities and colleges in the country has increased by 20.8 per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively, between 2016-17 and 2017-20.

The survey was attended by 1,015 universities, 4 colleges and 4 institutes in the country. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said on Twitter that the number of educational institutions in the country has increased significantly.

In 2015-16, the number of universities in the country was 9 which has increased to 104 in 2016-20. In other words, the number of universities has increased by 20.5 per cent.

The number of colleges in the country was 4,091 in 2015-16 which increased to 4.5 in 2015-16. In other words, the number of colleges has increased by 7.5 per cent.
