Full state, assembly elections, demanded employment: Azad

After a nearly three-and-a-half-hour meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said he had made five demands to the Prime Minister, ranging from immediate full state status to holding assembly elections.

Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Congress had made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir should now be given full state status again. Now the situation in Kashmir Valley is favorable. The border is peace. This step should be taken now. If the DDC elections can be held successfully in Jammu and Kashmir, then the Assembly elections should also be held.

He also raised the issue of Kashmiri Pandits. He said that rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir was the fundamental responsibility of all leaders. He believes that there are still many Kashmiri Pandits living outside Jammu and Kashmir. They should return home now. Apart from this, the Center should also guarantee employment to the youth in Kashmir from the Congress. The Congress also demanded that the government release all political prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir.
