Emirates Airlines lost Rs 40,500 crore for the first time in three decades

Travel restrictions in Corona reduced revenue by 66 percent

Despite the loss, the airline will not cancel its order for 200 aircraft

Dubai: Emirates Airlines, the largest airline in the Middle East, has reported a net loss of 5. 5.5 billion, or about Rs 40,500 crore. Revenue has also dropped by 66 per cent compared to last year due to travel restrictions imposed due to the Corona epidemic.

For the first time in three decades, the Dubai-based airline has announced a loss rather than a profit, highlighting the devastating impact of the Corona epidemic on the aviation industry. Despite a 46 per cent drop in the airline's operating costs, its revenue fell to 8.4 billion.

Emirates Airlines made a profit of 288 million last year. The emirate group, which is also in the business of providing various services at the airport, has lost a total of six billion dollars. The state-owned airline, known for its long-haul flights, received સહાય 2 billion in aid from the Dubai government last year.

The airline had to cancel all its passenger flights for about eight weeks after March 2020. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, said: "Our ability to cope with unknown disasters has been tested during this epidemic but we have emerged stronger.

"Despite the financial loss, we are committed to ordering 200 new aircraft," the airline, which has a fleet of 259 aircraft, including cargo, said. Last year, the airline acquired three new Airbus 380s and phased out 14 older ones. The airline is known for providing the best services in sophisticated aircraft.
