Amritsar: Before the Assembly elections in Punjab, Mayawati's party BSP and Shiromani Akali Dal have formed an alliance. It has also announced that it will remove the Congress from power in Punjab. After a gap of 25 years, Punjab's politics is heating up as both the BSP and the Akali Dal are reuniting.

Earlier, in 1996, the Akali Dal and the BSP formed a coalition and contested the Lok Sabha elections, winning 11 out of 13 seats. In which three seats were won by BSP and the remaining seats were won by Akali Dal. Mayawati, who formed the alliance, claimed that this was a new political and social initiative in Punjab that would make a major contribution to the development of Punjab.

Akali Dal leader and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said that the alliance between the BSP and the Akali Dal was the beginning of a secular, democratic revolution in Punjab and across the country.

Punjab has the largest population of SCs in the country. As a result, the BSP is hoping to win more seats in the next assembly elections.
