Chennai: With heavy security along the Pakistan border, terrorists are now reported to be infiltrating India by sea from Sri Lanka. There are reports that a police alert has been issued following this.

Tamil Nadu has been alerted after the report came to light and there is heavy tension on the border. An alert was issued on Saturday evening by a Central Intelligence Agency. After which, the police have increased security in Kanyakumari, Tutukudi, Rameshwaram as well as Chennai.

According to intelligence sources, a boat carrying terrorists with weapons was reportedly heading towards Rameshwaram. However, the exact identity of the terrorist or the group with the weapon is not yet known.

On the other hand, an alert has been issued in the area where the boat is reported to be approaching and security has also been beefed up. A police official in Chennai said that not only Rameshwaram but the whole of Tamil Nadu has been alerted after the report came to light.

However, I could not provide any further details, the official said. Police personnel have been deployed on most of the roads leading to the sea areas and intensive checking is being carried out. In addition, help from swimmers and ships at sea is being sought.
