The Indian Army has also deployed Battlefield Nursing Assistants (BFNAs) to fight the Corona virus. These nursing assistants have been deployed at the Army’s Covid Case Centers to address the shortage of nurses in the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The army suggested that state governments and hospitals could follow the model. Deputy Chief of Integrated Staff (Medical) Lieutenant General Madhuri Kanitkar said the BFNA is designed to help treat wounded soldiers in hospitals during the war. They are trained to provide basic basic health care facilities, including injections in combat situations, to help with breathing.

According to Kanitkar, BFNA can also train young volunteers to ease the workload on trained nurses. In these circumstances trained nurses could be useful in more important work in the fight against the epidemic.
