Nira Tandon, of Indian descent, has been appointed by US President Joe Biden as a senior adviser to the White House. Byrd had previously chosen him to lead the management and budget office but withdrew his candidacy in March due to opposition.

John Podesta, founder of the Center for American Progress (CAP), said Nira's intelligence, hard work and political vision would be important to the Biden administration. However, we will miss the expertise and leadership in CAP which was formed in 2003.

In March, the White House withdrew its offer to nominate Nira Tandon as director of President Joe Biden's budget office. The protests against Nira's name in both the parties could not be silenced. Neera also announced her withdrawal because she failed to garner the necessary votes for her candidacy between Democrats and Republicans.
