New Delhi, 30 May 2021 Sunday
The country is waiting for the arrival of monsoon. But, it will take a little longer. The arrival of monsoon in Kerala may be two days late. It is now expected to reach the state by June 3. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said this on Sunday. M Mahapatra, director general of the meteorological department, said the cyclonic circulation along the Karnataka coast had affected the south-west monsoon.
The meteorological department said that the south-westerly winds have been gradually picking up since June 1, which could lead to a surge in rainfall-related activity in Kerala.
According to the meteorological department, low-level south-westerly winds will intensify rainfall-related activities, with heavy rains expected in some places in the northeastern states in the next five days.
The monsoon usually arrives in Kerala on June 1, with the onset of the 4-month monsoon season in the country.
The monsoon was forecast to arrive in Kerala on May 31 by the meteorological department earlier this month, with the monsoon expected to remain normal this year.
Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Kerala & Mahe during next 5 days; Coastal Karnataka on 01st-03rd June and South Interior Karnataka on 02nd & 03rd June.
