India decides to widen gap between two doses of vaccine: White House Medical Adviser

New Delhi, May 14, 2021, Friday

Dr. Anthony Fossey, a White House medical adviser to the US president and a top US physician, praised India's decision to extend the interval between two doses of the corona vaccine, calling it a good producer of the vaccine.

He said that in the current situation in India, the vaccine needs to be delivered to more and more people. The view of widening the gap between vaccine doses is correct. Is.

Dr Fossi also advised India to start using Russia's Sputnik V vaccine from next week. More than 10 per cent of people in India have taken the first dose of the vaccine, while a few per cent have received two doses of the vaccine. India should plan together with other countries. At present India should try to vaccinate as many people as possible. Sometimes the situation in the country is such that the private sector does not work, at such times the army can help.

Following the recommendation of the government's Covid working group on Thursday, the central government has reduced the interval between the first and second doses of the vaccine to 12 to 16 weeks. The gap between the first two doses was 6 to 8 weeks. Gap widening is not recommended.

Dr. Paul, a member of the policy commission, also said that the recommendation to widen the gap was made after careful and thorough study. No pressure was responsible for it. Data from the World Health Organization was also studied before making a decision.
