New Delhi: With petrol and diesel prices being hiked for the 15th time this month, the price of a liter of petrol in Mumbai has crossed Rs 100 today. According to state-owned oil marketing companies, petrol prices were hiked by 26 paise and diesel by 28 paise today.

Petrol and diesel prices across the country have reached new historical levels in the wake of today's hike. Petrol price has already crossed Rs 100 in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

After today's hike, petrol price in Mumbai has gone up by Rs 100.19 and diesel by Rs 92.17. Since May 4, petrol prices have been hiked by a total of Rs 3.54 and diesel by Rs 4.16. It may be mentioned here that the VAT on petrol and diesel varies from state to state and the price of petrol and diesel varies from state to state.

VAT on petrol and diesel is the highest in Rajasthan. Then there are Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. In Delhi, petrol price has been hiked to Rs 93.94 and diesel to Rs 84.69 today.

Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked for the 15th time since May 4. Petrol and diesel prices were not hiked for 18 days following the assembly elections in five states, including West Bengal. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked from May 4 after the completion of five state elections.

Oil marketing companies change the price of petrol and diesel every day, keeping in mind the 15-day average price of crude oil and the dollar in the international market. Sriganganagar in Rajasthan has the highest petrol and diesel prices in the country. Petrol price has gone up to Rs 104.94 and diesel to Rs 97.79.
