New Delhi, Saturday 29 May 2021

While many experts have expressed apprehension about the third wave of corona, IIT Delhi has made a shocking revelation in a report which said that Delhi should be prepared to face the worst time of corona epidemic. About 45,000 cases of Covid-19 infection can occur here every day. Of these, 9,000 will be patients who do not need to be hospitalized. The report has been submitted to the Delhi High Court for the third wave of Corona.

The report, filed Friday, said the city would need a total of 944 metric tons of oxygen per day to meet such a crisis. A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh asked the Delhi government to file the chart within four weeks.

Based on the recommendations made in this report, it is planned to take necessary steps within the given time frame. Highlighting the findings of the report, the court said the government should set up oxygen production units at various locations and hospitals.

"We are fighting an epidemic once in a century," the bench said. According to historical evidence, the last epidemic occurred in 1920. The establishment of an oxygen manufacturing plant should be given first priority.

The IIT Delhi report mentions 3 conditions. In the first case, the number of patients, the number of patients admitted to the hospital and the need for oxygen are estimated depending on the condition of the second wave of corona. There has been talk of a 60 per cent increase in the number of patients in the third wave. This third condition is estimated to have more than 45,000 cases per day.

Regarding the findings of the report, IIT-Delhi professor Sanjay Dhire told the court that immediate steps should be taken to increase oxygen storage capacity, improve supply from outside Delhi and address the shortage of cryogenic oxygen tankers. Along with this, it is also recommended to increase the number of refillers for oxygen.

Under this, hospitals have also been asked to consider setting up local refilling stations. According to the report, the Delhi government should procure 20-25 cryogenic oxygen tankers with a capacity of 20-100 tonnes to streamline distribution.
