The coastal areas of West Bengal and northern Odisha are at risk of cyclonic storms. The Meteorological Department (IMD) said the storm was expected to turn into a severe storm within 24 hours. According to the meteorological department, torrential rains with strong winds are expected in coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal on Tuesday due to Hurricane Yas.

The meteorological department warned that the storm could cause waves up to 2-4 meters high in coastal areas. The meteorological department said winds of 155 to 165 kmph are expected during the severe storm, which could catch up to 185 kmph. Hurricane Yas could land between Odisha's Paradip and Sagar Island by Wednesday (May 26) evening, according to meteorologists.

NDRF team deployed

Several NDRF teams have been deployed in West Bengal and Odisha to deal with Yas Yas hurricane. The worst-hit areas are Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj in Odisha. While in West Bengal, Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas will be affected. Hurricane Yas is likely to hit the coasts of Bengal and Odisha on May 26, according to the meteorological department. State and central government agencies have been alerted to the hurricane forecast.
