Recently, the issue of dead bodies floating in the Ganges has become a topic of discussion. It is believed that these bodies belonged to people who had died from covid that had been washed away in the river. Disputes between the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar governments over the dumping of bodies have escalated, though Uttar Pradesh Water Resources Minister Mahendra Singh said my department has very few options to curb the problem.

The minister said people know and understand that they should not throw bodies in rivers. What can we do if people throw corpses in the river at night? However, the minister sided with the administration of the districts where the bodies were found floating, saying they were taking necessary steps. "There is no doubt that the Ganges needs to be protected from pollution," he said.

Regarding the burial of a large number of corpses in the river Ganga in Unnao, Singh said that there are many villages where Hindus still bury corpses. The corpses of many monks and saints are also buried and people worship them.

Notably, more than 100 bodies were found floating in the Ganges recently. Because of this, there was a fear among the people in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar that the bodies of those who had died from the corona were being dumped in the Ganges.
