Vaccine shortage cries on the one hand and 58 lakh doses on the other, wasted crores

New Delhi, dated 15 April 2021, Thursday

On the one hand, the state governments are lamenting the shortage of vaccines in the country and this has also affected the vaccination campaign. On the other hand, details have surfaced that 58 lakh doses of vaccine have been wasted in the country so far.

According to the details received, the review report of the ongoing vaccination campaign across the country has revealed that 58 lakh doses of vaccine have been wasted so far. The central government buys the vaccine at Rs 150 per dose. Seeing that, the government has wasted Rs 87 crore.

In Maharashtra alone, five lakh doses have been wasted and destroyed. Apart from Kerala, no other state has had its dose of vaccine wasted. Kerala's record has been brilliant in this regard. In some states the percentage of vaccine dose wasted is eight to nine percent. Which is worrying.

One vial of Covishield vaccine has a dose of 10 people and one vial of Covacin vaccine has a dose of 20 people. Once the vial opens, all doses must be given within four hours. While at vaccination centers, four to five doses per vial are being wasted.

So far, more than 100 million people in the country have been vaccinated. If the vaccine waste is not stopped, the loss to the government will also increase.
