Outraged by Amit Shah's statement, Bangladesh's foreign minister said, "We are ahead of India on many fronts."

New Delhi, dated 15 April 2021, Thursday

The election campaign in Bengal has reverberated in Bangladesh as well. Bangladesh's foreign minister has been incensed following a statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a recent interview.

"Poor people from Bangladesh come to India," said Amit Shah. Because they don't even have enough to eat there. Such infiltration will be stopped after the BJP government is formed in Bengal. This issue is on the agenda of the BJP.

In response, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the Indian Home Minister's knowledge of Bangladesh was very limited. This kind of comment is unacceptable to Bangladesh. Especially when there are very close ties between Bangladesh and India. Such statements are misleading. We are doing better than India on some fronts. No one dies of starvation in Bangladesh anymore.

"50 per cent of people in India do not have a toilet," he said. 90% of people in Bangladesh use toilets. There are many job opportunities for the less educated in our country. Our people do not have to go to India for employment.
