No change within West Bengal's election program: Election Commission

Kolkata, Ta. Thursday, April 15, 2021

Within West Bengal, assembly elections are to be held in eight phases, out of which four phases have already been cast. On the one hand, another wave of Corona virus has caused outcry across the country. In West Bengal, on the other hand, there seems to be nothing like taxes. Millions of people are gathering there every day inside election rallies. The Kolkata High Court has struck down the Election Commission over this.

Following the High Court's verdict, the Election Commission has now convened a meeting of all political parties in Bengal on April 16. In which all points, including Corona's guidelines, were discussed. The Election Commission has made it clear that adherence to the Koro rules must be enforced. At the same time, the Election Commission has made it clear that there is no planning to hold the next four phases of voting simultaneously. That means there will be no change in the election program.

It is pertinent to mention here that given the CFOD situation in the country due to Corona, there was speculation that the remaining polls in West Bengal would be held simultaneously. Now the Election Commission has denied this. At the same time, the Election Commission has directed all political parties to adhere strictly to the Corona guideline. Cases of corona virus are also on the rise in West Bengal.
