Lightning strikes Iran's nuclear unit, deepening mystery

- If Israel is responsible for this incident, the tension between the two countries will increase

Iran's Natanz nuclear power plant suffered a sudden power outage on Sunday, damaging it. The president of Iran's civilian nuclear program called the power outage "nuclear terrorism." Ali Akbar Salehi, chief of Iran's nuclear program, made the remarks on Iranian state television on Sunday night.

Salehi did not name anyone suspected of being behind "nuclear terrorism" but did refer to Israel. His remarks could escalate tensions in West Asia. Israeli media also reported that a cyber attack had blinded Natanz and damaged a unit with sensitive centrifuges. However, no source has been named for this but the Israeli media has close ties to the country's military and intelligence agencies.

Tensions between the two countries could rise if Israel is to blame for the incident. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Sunday and vowed to do everything possible to stop the nuclear deal. A full report on what happened at the Natanz nuclear unit has not been released, but a power outage has been reported due to a disturbance in the electric grid feed.
