Asking for dowry at weddings and playing DJs is haraam, this Muslim organization issued a decree

Mirzapur, dated 1 April 2021, Thursday

A new edict has been issued at a meeting of the Muslim community organization Marakji Sunni Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in Mirzapur, UP.

According to the decisions taken at the meeting, playing DJ at weddings is now banned. If this decision is not followed then Qazi will not teach Nikah and if any Qazi will teach Nikah then he will be boycotted in the society.

Maulana Najam Ali Khan, president of the organization, said that the agitation against asking for dowry, against standing at the event and having a meal, against playing DJs and against those who set off fireworks at weddings started from Mirzapur today. First people will be persuaded to marry according to the Shariah. Even after that, if one does not follow this, the Qazi will not get married and if one gets married, he will be excluded from the society.

He said the purpose behind the ban was to enforce the Shariah and prevent false marriage expenses. Asking for dowry at a wedding, playing a DJ, setting off fireworks is against Islam.

The meeting was also attended by members of the community and the clerics said that vices such as asking for dowry in the name of marriage, misappropriating money and playing DJs have spread in the Muslim community. All these things are haraam according to Shariah.
