Taking advantage of fake court documents is a serious crime: Supreme Court

- The High Court should be more careful when granting bail to a person who has tampered with court records

The apex court on Monday quashed the bail granted to a person by the high court in a fraud case and said it was a serious offense to take advantage of it by preparing or tampering with fake court documents.

Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice M.R. Shah's bench said, "It is a very serious crime to take advantage of bogus court documents or to tamper with them." If fake court documents are prepared or tampered with, it will impede justice. There is a difference between making or tampering with fake court documents and taking advantage of fake documents between two people.

The apex court also said that the high court should be more careful while granting bail to a person who allegedly tampered with court records.
