Snake venom worth Rs 1 crore seized from the state, 6 arrested

The Forest Department team has had great success at Bhubaneswar, Odisha. A team from the forest department has busted a large racket of snake venom smuggling. About one liter of snake venom has been seized and six people have been arrested. The seized poison is valued at around Rs 10 million in the international market.

District Forest Officer Ashok Mishra said all the six people were arrested and 1 liter of snake venom was seized from them. Among those arrested was a woman who is a resident of Balasore. 5 vials of 5-5 ml were also recovered from the accused.

Ashok Mishra said that someone had made a deal for the poison for Rs 10 lakh. However, its value in the international market is Rs 1 crore. According to the DFO, about 200 cobras are used to collect 1 liter of venom. A case has been registered against all those arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
