According to Velumni's supporter UMT Raja, he drove a Scooty with a black cloth over his face to spread awareness about the achievements of the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu. They wanted to show voters how much work Velumni has done during his tenure.

According to Raja, it was difficult to walk on the road with open eyes 10 years ago but due to the good governance of AIADMK government, good roads and good infrastructure provided by him, he can drive blindfolded. He drove this way just to give people this message.
