Three new MPs were sworn in earlier in the day in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. All three members are from the BJP. Two MPs from Gujarat and one from Assam were given an official welcome in the Rajya Sabha.

Opposition in the Rajya Sabha then raised the issue of uncontrollable prices of petrol and diesel. It made the atmosphere in the house tense. Opposition lawmakers challenged the government to discuss the issue of petrol-diesel-cooking gas price hike.

Speaker Vaikeya Naidu told the Rajya Sabha that Leader of the Opposition Khadge had requested him to suspend other proceedings under Rule 267 for a discussion on petrol-diesel, but it was not accepted. Opposition lawmakers rallied after the announcement.

Opposition leader Khadge alleged that the central government had earned Rs 21 lakh crore from the petrol-diesel price hike. There was a huge uproar after the statement that people are upset and the government is making a profit.

Similarly, in the Lok Sabha, the Opposition also demanded a debate on raising petrol-diesel-cooking gas prices. Tributes were paid to two sitting and seven former MPs in the Lok Sabha. Immediately after that there was an uproar. The decision to adjourn the Lok Sabha for a day was announced as the atmosphere became extremely tense.

Meanwhile, reports citing House sources also claimed that the session could be shortened in view of the Assembly elections. Leaders are busy in propaganda. He is more interested in winning the next Assembly elections than the Lok Sabha proceedings.

Many parties have urged the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Lok Sabha Speaker to end the session early. A decision in this regard will be taken in both the houses in the coming days. The session is scheduled to run until April 8, but has been reduced to March 27.
