Retired dogs from ITBP will serve as 'Therapy Dogs'

(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. 26
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police will pave the way for their five trained retired dogs to become therapy dogs. These dogs will help paralyzed people and soldiers undergoing treatment at the hospital.
India's various security agencies have about 300 trained dogs. These dogs retire after a few years of service. Currently retired dogs are donated to NGOs. Or they spend the rest of their lives in a retirement home for trained dogs.
The training of these dogs has long been considered in other ways. A conference was held on the issue, which was discussed among senior officials of the Home Ministry.
It was decided that help would be sought as therapy dogs for dogs retiring from the service of various security agencies. This therapy will help people ranging from wounded soldiers lying on hospital beds to paralyzed people and special children.
For this initiative, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force announced the decision to make five retired dogs therapy dogs. As part of this, five dogs have started helping at the ITBP hospital in Chandigarh. In the hospital these dogs spend time with patients and play games with them.
