Former BJP leader who joined TMC and former minister in Vajpayee's government Yashwant Sinha has made a new revelation.

He said the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane took place during the tenure of the Vajpayee government and was carried out by terrorists in the Afghan city of Kandahar.

While the issue was being discussed in the cabinet, Mamata Banerjee said, "If the terrorists are ready to release the remaining passengers, I am ready to go there and be held hostage and I am ready to make whatever sacrifices I have to make for the country."

The Kandahar hijacking scandal took place in 1999 and forced the government to release three terrorists in exchange for passengers.

After joining the TMC today, Yashwant Sinha referred to the issue and said, "Our values and principles are at stake in the country today. Institutions working to strengthen democracy are being weakened."
