The controversy has escalated over a petition filed by Lucknow-based leader Wasim Rizvi in the Supreme Court seeking removal of 26 verses from the Quran.
He said that BJP does not agree with Wasim Rizvi at all. BJP respects the scriptures of all religions including Quran Sharif and BJP does not agree at all with Rizvi's demand to remove verses from Quran.
He said that Wasim Rizvi's absurd demand was less than condemnable. BJP is against tampering with any religious text.
Meanwhile, the government's Minorities Commission has issued a notice against Rizvi following complaints against him. Following Rizvi's reply, legal action will be taken against him.
Rizvi has also been the former chairman of the UP Shia Waqf Board. He claims that the 26 verses I am seeking to be deleted have been later added to the Quran. However, Rizvi is being vehemently opposed by the Muslim community. A reward of Rs 11 lakh was also announced at a function of the Komi Ekta Sangathan in Moradabad.
