The big decision of this state amidst the peasant movement, forgave the debt of 12000 crores to the farmers

Amid the ongoing peasant agitation in the country, the Tamil Nadu government has taken a big decision to appease the farmers in view of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Tamil Nadu has written off Rs 12,000 crore in debt to farmers in the state. This is a debt that farmers have to repay in co-operative banks. The government's decision will directly benefit about 16 lakh farmers.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had announced another scheme for farmers on February 1. "The government will provide Rs 1,167 crore to the farmers of the state to offset the losses incurred by the farmers due to the rains in January, which will be credited directly to the farmers' bank accounts," he said.

He said that in view of the plight of the farmers, the government has been directed to provide assistance from the state relief fund to the farmers affected by the hurricane.
