Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Sri Lanka next week. Earlier in the day, he was scheduled to address Parliament, but Sri Lanka has canceled the address with immediate effect.
Imran Khan's two-day visit to Sri Lanka was earlier scheduled to be addressed in Parliament, but Sri Lanka has canceled the event for fear of straining relations with India if Imran Khan sings the Kashmir tune in the Sri Lankan Parliament. Now Imran Khan will visit Sri Lanka, but will not be able to address Parliament.
Sri Lanka's foreign secretary canceled Imran's parliamentary address citing Corona's cause. Pakistan's Dawn newspaper quoted Sri Lankan media as claiming that Imran Khan's speech was canceled because Sri Lanka wanted to maintain warm relations with India. Sri Lanka made it clear that friendship with India was more important than with Pakistan.
The incident was also heavily criticized by the Pakistani media. Pakistani media called it a failure of Imran Khan's government foreign policy. Pakistan's PM was embarrassed when Sri Lanka canceled his speech just days before the countdown.
