Will the price of milk go up to Rs 100 / liter from March 1? The micro-blogging website Twitter has been trending since Saturday morning using this hashtag. Sharing a newspaper slip in it, it is claimed that farmers have talked of raising the price of milk. Like petrol-diesel, a rate list has also been shared in which tax breakup has been given and details of how the price of Rs 100 has been fixed have been presented.

Farmers' organizations have not yet commented on the matter but the news is going viral on social media. In the slip being shared, the name of an office bearer of the United Kisan Morcha agitating on the Indus border is written. According to him, milk sold at Rs 50 a liter will be sold at double the price, i.e. Rs 100 a liter.

According to the paper cutting, the farmer leader says that if the central government is trying to encircle the farmers by increasing the price of diesel, then the price of milk has been doubled to solve the problem. It has also said that if the government does not agree, the prices of vegetables will go up.

Some people tweeting with this hashtag are also questioning why milk is not possible if you can buy a liter of petrol for Rs 100. The rate list being shared includes green fodder tax, labor tax, farmers' profit etc.

At first glance, this may seem like a coordinated campaign because many tweets are identical and use templates.

The United Farmers Front has not officially commented on the matter. Some milk producers in the country have talked of raising milk prices by Rs 10, citing petrol-diesel prices, but no one has announced Rs 100.
