Washington, Ta. Monday, February 15, 2021

For the first time, the WTO has chosen a woman as its leader. An online meeting of the WTO was held on Monday in which Nigeria's Okonjo Elvila was chosen as its first female leader.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has a total of 164 member countries, with Okonjo, Nigeria's former finance minister, elected as the first woman leader in an online meeting. He has been appointed Director General of the WTO.

Okonjo is also the first African woman to hold the post. O'Connor, 66, will hold the post for four years. He previously served at the World Bank for 25 years, as well as two terms as Finance Minister in Nigeria, and was also the head of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.

The WTO is a world trade organization with 164 countries. The organization is associated with world trade. China, on the other hand, criticized the WTO, saying the organization needed to do its job properly.
