Facebook ban in Myanmar, an important step by the military regime

Myanmar's new military government has temporarily banned Facebook amid protests against military rule in the country after the change of power, the social media platform is very popular in Myanmar and even the ousted government made the most announcements on Facebook.

Users said they started having trouble using Facebook late Wednesday night. Mobile service provider Telenor Myanmar has confirmed in a statement that it has received instructions from the Ministry of Information and Information to temporarily shut down Facebook. He said he would abide by it, although he was also concerned about measures that violated this human rights.

"Telecom service providers in Myanmar have ordered a temporary ban on Facebook. We urge the authorities to resume the service so that the people of Myanmar can stay in touch with their family and friends, and access information," a Facebook spokesperson said.

The country's military has accused the army of rigging the election, and the administration has revolted against the elected government, and state councilor Aung San Suu Kyi's party has been placed under house arrest.
